The following is the daily communications briefing on behalf of Dr. Cash.
Today I had the pleasure of meeting President Diann Woodard, of the American Federation of School Administrators. The AFSA-AFL-CIO is the national union BPS administrators are affiliated with.
President Woodard had lunch at the Emerson School of Hospitality with Director of Elementary Education Dr. Ann Fitzgerald, Emerson Principal Debbie White-Stokes, Buffalo Board of Education President Dr. Barbara Nevergold, McKinley High School Principal & Buffalo Council of School Administrators President Crystal Barton, New York State Regent Dr. Catherine Collins, and Buffalo Teachers Federation President Phil Rumore.
Tomorrow, President Woodard will visit City Honors School, the Buffalo Academy of the Visual and Performing Arts, Stanley M. Makowski Early Childhood Center, and McKinley High School, followed by her attendance at tomorrow’s Buffalo Board of Education meeting in City Council Chambers.
The Buffalo Public Schools’ Crisis Team was deployed to Buffalo United Charter School (BUCS) today, following the tragic traffic-related death of two BUCS students. Dr. Rosser and his team will continue to follow up and provide services as needed. Counseling has also been made available to students and staff of Roosevelt E.C.C. #65, where the students were formerly enrolled during the 2014-15 school year.
Associate Superintendent for Human Resources Jamie Warren is on her way home from the District’s search for bilingual teachers in Puerto Rico, where she and her team successfully signed 13 candidates.
It was a strategic process that began over a month ago, with online registration for one-on-one interviews with bilingual teachers in Puerto Rico. Puerto Rican media also covered the search, which brought greater awareness and more interested candidates.
During the process, BPS principals were able to Skype with candidates chosen specific to their schools’ needs. More details will be forthcoming upon Ms. Warren’s return.
The Council of the Great City Schools’ April edition of the Urban Educator is now available, featuring the District’s Strong Community Schools story on page 7. Click here for the PDF. Click here for the magazine format.
Enjoy your evening!
