James Smallwood

James Smallwood is an assistant principal at Dr. Henry A. Wise, Jr. High School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, one of the largest high schools in Prince George’s County with well over 2,800 students.

Mr. Smallwood has been employed by Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) for the past 27 years serving as a teacher for 10 years and as an administrator for 17 years. During his tenure with the school system, he has served in numerous leadership roles culminating in his current presidency of AFSA Local 109.

Mr. Smallwood has served as the president of the Association of Supervisory and Administrative School Personnel (ASASP) union in Prince George’s County representing approximately 800 administrative and supervisory personnel for the past 6 years, during which he has been an active participant in the labor movement attending various labor conferences, conventions and local political events.
