Protecting Student Privacy

About the Webinar

Schools are relied on to provide students with a safe and secure learning environment. Increasingly, protecting sensitive student information is a vital part of keeping students safe.

Recent education reforms, along with advances in technology, have greatly increased the amount of personal student data that schools are required to collect and monitor. While this data can be used very positively, it must also be protected.

In May 2014, AFSA partnered with the U.S. Department of Education and Common Sense Media to host a webinar discussion on these critical issues! Presenters included Michael Hawes, Statistical Privacy Advisor for the U.S. Department of Education, Joni Lupovitz, Vice President of Policy for Common Sense Media, and Cecilia T. Proscia, Assistant Principal at Susan E. Wagner High School in Staten Island, NY.
